Prairie View A&M was struggling to get their campus blanketed with fast, reliable broadband connectivity. They had started out with a 2.4GHz 802.11 technology, but it only provided a spotty, unreliable network. The University began to consider running in-ground optical fiber through their campus, but the high cost kept them from moving forward with the plan. Even if the cost had been manageable, with fiber they would have to wait over a year to get their campus fully connected, and deal with the continuous disruption of digging trenches all over campus in the meantime.
