SKYFIBER increases Broadband Capacity 100-fold for the City of Dumas, Texas, connecting critical municipality infrastructure at very low cost per megabit.

December 20, 2010
DALLAS, TEXAS - SKYFIBER, global leader in Optical Wireless Broadband technology, has been chosen by the City of Dumas, Texas to expand the broadband connectivity of the city’s critical institutions including City Hall, Fire Station, and Police Station. With SKYFIBER’s innovative Optical Wireless Broadband, the current bandwidth available to these buildings will drastically increase from the old legacy 1.44 Mbps connections to new 100 Mbps connections, expanding usable bandwidth by almost 100 times.

SKYFIBER’s Optical Wireless Broadband (OWB) technology uses infrared light to provide over 1Gbps of Broadband connectivity at a fraction of the cost of Microwave, Millimeter wave, or In-Ground Fiber. The technology is ideal for connecting key municipality infrastructure, as well as relieving mobility backhaul bottlenecks, connecting business/medical/educational campuses, channeling highly secure data transactions, and a host of other key applications. SKYFIBER’s Optical Wireless Broadband is highly secure, compact, and easily deployable, and takes as little as a day to get a 1Gig link up and running.  For the City of Dumas, low cost, ease of deployment, data security, and high capacity were the critical factors in making their final telecommunications technology decision.

The City of Dumas is a thriving community with steadily increasing data bandwidth needs.

“We needed to find a way to increase the bandwidth available to our critical municipal facilities without compromising the security of the data. Our key institutions need to share large amounts of data quickly and securely on a daily basis, but our previous networks would grind to a halt under the load. Fiber access was an available option that we considered, but it was so cost-prohibitive that it really wasn’t a viable solution for our needs. In contrast, SKYFIBER’s innovative Optical Wireless Broadband technology will allow us to increase our bandwidth between these important city buildings by almost 100 times, for a very low monthly cost,” said Rhonda McSpadden, IT Director for the City of Dumas

SKYFIBER has worked with several other municipalities to provide just this kind of low-cost high-capacity solution.

“We are very pleased to be chosen by City of Dumas for such an important part of their municipal communications network. Our goal is to enable Municipalities everywhere to connect their communities securely and effectively with high bandwidth while maintaining low cost. SKYFIBER’s high-capacity and high-security features make it a perfect fit for Municipalities that need to connect their anchor institutions to keep real-time communications flowing between all key community buildings,” said David Achim, President and CEO

SKYFIBER offers Optical Wireless Broadband via an industry-first On-Demand licensing model, enabling a lower cost of entry and faster time to market than currently available with traditional solutions such as fiber or microwave. With the On-Demand model, a monthly subscription fee provides bandwidth to meet the customer’s current capacity needs, eliminates on-going equipment maintenance costs, and enables the customer to maintain total flexibility to increase capacity and take advantage of technological advances.
