SKYFIBER and MetroWave Join Forces to deliver Optical Wireless Broadband to Southern Florida

June 28, 2011
DALLAS, TEXAS – SKYFIBER, a global leader in Optical Wireless Broadband technology, announced their plans today for a strategic partnership with MetroWave, a Florida-based telecommunications service provider. MetroWave builds and operates proprietary next generation wireless networks delivering fast, reliable and affordable broadband data, voice and video communications, and currently serves customers across the Orlando and Miami areas. MetroWave's unique network infrastructure is comprised of interlaced self-healing multi-gigabit wireless rings, and allows customers to completely bypass local exchange carriers for their telecommunications needs.

This alliance will integrate SKYFIBER's Optical Wireless Broadband technology with existing MetroWave Millimeter Microwave and traditional Microwave technologies to accelerate expansion of their disaster-resistant metro network. SKYFIBER’s Optical Wireless Broadband (OWB) technology uses infrared light to provide over 1 Gbps of Broadband connectivity at a very low cost. OWB is highly secure, compact, and easily deployable, making it ideal for relieving mobility backhaul bottlenecks, connecting business campuses, and a host of other key applications.

David Achim, CEO and President of SKYFIBER said, “MetroWave has taken an completely original approach to delivering telecommunications solutions in southern Florida, providing a viable and innovative alternative to traditional LECs. Adding SKYFIBER’s Optical Wireless Broadband into the MetroWave solutions toolbox will really accelerate network development capabilities.”

Unlike a traditional wired connection, the wireless connection provided by OWB does not require fiber installation, making it a very attractive alternative when expanding urban-environment networks. Additionally, the wireless link is not subject to licensing and regulation associated with other wireless technologies, which makes deployment fast and extremely cost effective. Ted Mahoney, MetroWave’s CEO said, “A technology like SKYFIBER’s Optical Wireless Broadband that provides such large capacity at such a low cost with rapid deployment is truly a game-changer, and OWB will be a key component in our future networks. Optical Wireless Broadband provides an extremely effective solution not only for our local markets in the US, but also for the international infrastructure opportunities we currently have in emerging markets.”
