Gerardo Gonzalez
President and Chief Executive Officer
A native of Mexico City, Gerardo Gonzalez has over 40 years experience in all aspects of the global Telecommunications industry including management, consulting, regulation, design, operations, manufacturing, service delivery, marketing and sales.
For 10 years, he was responsible for the manufacturing and sales for Northern Telecom’s subsidiary and for the establishment of its production facility. As Managing Director he oversaw 1990 sales approaching $80 million (U.S.) in cellular systems.
As VP of operations and engineering for Movitel del Noroeste, S.A. de C.V., Mr. Gonzalez was responsible for the establishment of the infrastructure that provides cellular telephone services in the states of Sonora and Sinaloa. From 1992 to 1994, he served as Managing Director for all of Movitel del Noroeste.
In 1994 he joined Grupo Televisa and he held the positions of Managing Director for Comunicaciones Mtel, S. A. de C.V. (Skytel) largest paging company in México and Operations Director for Cablevisión, S. A. de C. V. largest cable company in México.
He is also the founder and President of the Telecommunications & Consulting firms of Especialistas en Comunicaciones y Servicios, S. A. de C. V. since 1983 and Especialistas en Consultoria y Servicios, S.A. de C.V. since 2003. This firm provided consulting services to key telecommunications companies such as Grupo Iusacell, Avantel, Grupo Domos, Investcom-Protel, Grupo Acumen and Rockwell Switching Systems Division.
In 1996 he transitioned to a role at Advanced Techcom Inc as the Regional Sales Director for Latin America, providing turn-key solutions with microwave systems and Managing Director for the sales and service organization in México.
From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Gonzalez served first as the General Director for the Audits section at the Telecom Division of Grupo Salinas, (Biper/paging, Gilat/Nec VSAT Network, RadioCel/trunking and Unefon/PCS), and then as the General Director for RadioCel, the trunking Company of Grupo Salinas. In this role he was responsible for the sale of the 800 MHz frequency band to Nextel.
Continuing his work with Groupo Salinas, he served as CTO from 2000 to 2002, including TV Azteca, Unefon, RadioCel, Mobil Access, Biper and Grupo Elektra, and then as CEO for Telecosmo, the first Internet wireless service provider in México.
Mr. Gonzalez then took on the role of General Director for Damovo Mexico in 2005, Mexican’s main distributor for Ericsson´s digital Systems for Telecommunication voice and data networks.
On June 26 2006 we has appointed by Mexican President of Mexico, Vicente Fox as a Commissioner at Cofetel (Mexican Telecommunications Regulatory entity), a role he held until September 2008.
Mr. Gonzalez has received multiple nominations and awards, the most recently was granted on March 14, 2009, by the National Polytechnic Institute Alumni, due his excellent professional development with a diploma and the medal “Amalia Solorzano de Cardenas”. |
